Center for Studies about aging will present at the University of Indonesia

Center for Studies Gerontology or knowledge about aging will attend the University of Indonesia (UI). Since 2000, the study of aging (the parents) is continuously developed in the UI Center for Health Studies in cooperation with various institutions both from within and abroad.
Deputy Director, Corporate Communications of UI Devie Rahmawati, in the press release, she said many countries in the interdisciplinary study on aging has been developed. This study because it became associated with the strategic policy formulation and program development of the country, along with the increasing population of parents around the world.
She explains, in the Asia-Pacific region was increasing the population of parents that are significant from the 410 million older people in the year 2007, predicted to cut through the number 733 million in the year 2025 and 1.3 billion people in the old year 2050.
In the year 2025 will estimated to parents will contribute 15 percent of world population and increased to 25 percent of the population in the year 2050. “Currently, the population of new parents about 10 percent,” said Devie, Tuesday (21/7/2009).
According to him, Indonesia ranked as the fourth most populous country in the world, in the year 2020 will have as many as 28.8 million parents (11 percent of population). In the same year, the population under the age of five years on a regular basis will continue to decrease in the number of the population.
Until the year 2009, the UI has developed at least 70 research related to aging (the parents) conducted by faculty in academic: medicine, dentistry, public health, nursing, economic and demographic institutions.
However, most studies have focused on new aspects of health. “Therefore, the UI working with the industry and similar studies in other countries, will build the Gerontology Center of Research,” she said.
Center of this study has a broad spectrum of research, including aspects of medical (medical gerontology), social (social gerontology) including technology (gerontechnology).
Devie also explains, areas of research include medical education and health including dental, nursing, nutrition, traditional medicine and psychology.
Social Gerontology studies include demographic, social participation, communication, social rehabilitation, social inclusion, financial security, social solidarity and social environment. While related gerontology is about building, housing, information technology, facilities and physical environment and design.
Not only that, Devie said, UI will also build a Wellness Center Development. These institutions will offer facilities that include six main dimensions, namely emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual vocational.
The variant program are consultation clinic and health care, home care, technology, consulting and learning long-term programs active aging.
